Nicholas Curtis AM, BA (Hons), FAICD – Managing Director

Nick is the Founding Director of BBI Group Pty Ltd. Nick now serves as Executive Director, with a focus on commercial and finance. His career spans more than 30 years in the resources and finance industries.

Nick graduated from Sydney University with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons).
His early career was in banking and finance. In 1990 he became Executive Director of Macquarie Bank Limited heading the commodities division.

In 1994 Nick left Macquarie to set up Sino Mining International, a wholly owned subsidiary of the State owned China National Non Ferrous Metals Corporation. This company developed the first internationally operated mine in China, the Jianchaling Gold mine in Shaanxi Province.

In 2000 Nick founded Sino Gold Limited as Executive Chairman. This company operated gold mines in China. It listed on the Australian Stock Exchange in 2001.
During 2001 Nick took control of ASX listed Lynas Corporation developing the Mt Weld rare earth deposit in Western Australia and a large downstream rare earth processing plant in Kuantan in Malaysia. He retired from Lynas in 2013 after the plant in Malaysia was fully commissioned.

In 2011 Nick founded Forge Resources Ltd, a junior ASX mining exploration company. This company acquired the Balla Balla Mine in the Pilbara in Western Australia. It was privatised by him and Todd Corporation in 2014, and is now BBI Group Pty Ltd, focussed on building a large scale integrated iron ore system in the Pilbara in Western Australia.

Between 2011 and 2013 Nick served as a Governor of the Mining and Metals Industry Partnership Group and as Co-Chair of the Global Growth Company community for the World Economic Forum, attending the Davos Summit during these years.

In 2011 Nick received the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for the Australian Eastern Division.

On 13 June 2011 Nick was awarded an AM (member of the Order of Australia) for his services to the community through executive roles supporting medical research and healthcare organisations and also for his work fostering Australia-China relations.
